Starting a Community Land Trust

Lilac Housing Co-op – an example of what can be achieved.
Our feasibility study into the possibility of a sustainable neighbourhood on the edge of Llandovery last year recommended setting up a community land trust. Some individuals who came to our public meetings earlier this year and expressed an interest in taking this forward are now fortunate to have been welcomed to join an existing community land trust from the Presteigne area.

This saves us having to start a new one, with all the time and financial costs that would entail. There will be a name change and change to its constitution to cover a wider geographical area down to the Southern end  of the Heart of Wales line
.

If this excites you we invite you to join us! If you want to know what a community land trust can achieve, read Catherine Harrington's article in Inside Housing about how it puts local people and their communities in genuine control, benefiting everyone.

Support our present and future plans!

What we are doing
• Setting up a Community Land Trust to develop on-the-ground practical projects.
• Lobbying and working with the Welsh Government and local authorities on the new drafts of Planning Policy Wales and the National Development Framework to make sure they include the type of visionary support for regeneration and the renewal that rural Wales needs.
• Developing and designing short courses for people wanting to set up social enterprises; and for planning officials to help them adjust to the requirements of a post-Brexit, more sustainable Wales.

You can read our response to the latest consultation on Planning Policy Wales edition 10 here.

We need funds

All of this requires funds, and our present funding from the Brecon Beacons Park Authority for our one day a week administration officer runs out in September.

It's proving harder and harder to get grant support in these tough times. Therefore we invite you to help us by making a donation or a standing order: our bank details are as follows:
Co-op Bank, Sort code: 08-92-99. Account no: 65707393. Account name: Calon Cymru Network Community Interest Company

Any support you can give is most welcome, either with volunteer time or funding. Please get in touch to find out more.

Our new video – the idea in a nutshell

3/29/2018

We're proud to present our new promotional video made with a grant from the National Lottery. It's only 100 seconds long, so give it a viewing!

We think it encapsulates our basic message in a nutshell. We'd love to know what you think and for it to be shared far and wide.

We want to inspire people to start projects throughout Wales, especially near public transport networks like the Heart of Wales line.

We believe that rural areas have the potential to supply sustainable food, products, energy and water to urban Wales. This will help to revitalise these areas.

We have applied for a grant to make a Welsh version of the film.
