CCN update

Sam Carew

Calon Cymru Network has decided to unincorporate and to continue as a voluntary membership organisation, to pursue its aims of rural revival along the corridor of the Heart of Wales railway.

Calon Cymru's members have been busy on several projects during 2021-22. They include:

  • Severn Wye's 'Rural Futures', including a website for Llandovery, https://www.llandovery.wales.

  • The continuing efforts of Bronllys Wellbeing Park Community Land Trust to work with Powys Teaching Health Board to create affordable homes and community amenities.

  • Working to restore social housing in the charity-owned Cornwallis House, Llanwrda. The house, which contained six flats, is a listed building and expensive to restore, especially as future rental income would be restricted.

  • Liaising with the Heart of Wales Line Development Company, which promotes this important public transport route.

  • Report submitted to the Welsh Government’s Future Generations Commissioner, on Homes Fit for the Future: the Retrofit Challenge, which pointed out deficiencies in Energy Performance Certificates when applied to retrofitted properties in the rental market.

  • Response to the Welsh Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament, on The Cultural and Economics of Trade and Environmental Policy on Family Farms in Wales.
